Effie Phillips-Staley is running to bring progressive leadership to Congress for working families, not the corporations and oligarchs who profit at our expense.
A Trusted Progressive Leader
Effie has never been afraid to stand up for what’s right. In the 1990’s, Effie served as a clinic escort, helping women seeking abortion care through mobs of protesters. As a nonprofit executive, Effie helped raise millions for Puerto Ricans abandoned by the Trump administration in the wake of Hurricane Maria. Effie’s leadership at Tarrytown’s public school foundation helped advance early childhood literacy and responded to growing food insecurity by supporting the launch of a teacher and student-run food pantry. She is never deterred by challenges and has devoted her life to mission-driven work.
Delivering for the Hudson Valley
As a Tarrytown Trustee, Effie has prioritized affordable and middle income housing and climate resilience in the village, and she supports law enforcement to keep the community safe. In the nonprofit sector, she has advanced the causes of immigration, Latino community empowerment, education and the arts. Effie is a tested public servant from the Hudson Valley who never backs down from a fight.
Effie is running to represent the values of the Hudson Valley – values which have been absent for the past four years in Congress and are desperately needed.
